Hungarian parliament postpones vote on Sweden’s admission to NATO

21views

The opposition’s proposal in the Hungarian parliament to vote on the issue of Sweden’s admission to the North Atlantic Alliance did not receive a majority of votes and can now be considered only next month.

Deputy from the Democratic Coalition party Agnes Vadai announced this on October 26 on her page on the social network Facebook (banned in the Russian Federation; owned by the Meta company, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

Why did the Hungarian parliament postpone the vote?

According to the deputy, there will be no vote this week on the issue of Sweden’s admission to NATO, since the ruling Fidesz party, which has a majority of seats in parliament, rejected the proposal to include this issue on the agenda.

Thus, the date of ratification by the Hungarian Parliament of the agreement on Sweden’s accession to NATO is still not determined.

The corresponding bill was introduced by the Hungarian government into parliament last summer, but consideration was postponed indefinitely due to unfriendly statements by Swedish politicians towards Hungary.

The head of the office of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Gergely Gulyas, yesterday, during a meeting with journalists, made it clear that there are still claims against Sweden.

He stressed that Hungary wants to have normal relations with Sweden.

If we succeed in achieving this, then there will be no obstacles to entry, – added Guillas.

Of all the alliance countries, the Swedish application was not approved only by Hungary and Turkey, which sought tougher measures from Sweden against Kurdish separatists.

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed and submitted for ratification to parliament the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO, but Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungarian parliamentarians will make a decision without regard to their Turkish colleagues.
