Hungary and Slovakia opposed the EU’s allocation of 50 billion euros to Kyiv

22views

The two countries of the European Union do not want Brussels to allocate the previously agreed upon 50 billion euros to support Ukraine.

In particular, Hungary and Slovakia oppose such a step, as stated by their prime ministers Viktor Orban and Robert Fico.

Both leaders spoke accordingly during the EU summit in the Belgian capital.

The newspaper Politico found out about this and informed its readers, citing a certain anonymous diplomat as the primary source.

The Slovak Prime Minister justified his decision by the high level of corruption in Ukraine, quotes excerpts from an article by TASS.

By the way. In order for amendments to be made to the EU budget, they need approval from all 27 countries that are members of the commonwealth.

It is worth noting that earlier, in addition to Budapest and Bratislava, the European Commission’s call to make additional contributions to the fund of financial and military assistance to Kyiv was not supported by Belgium.

And Orban, even before the start of the summit, notified that his country would block the allocation of additional funds to Ukraine from the EU budget until it received a reasoned explanation for this kind of action.

According to him, a Ukrainian delegation is expected to arrive in Budapest to discuss the situation with the Hungarian OTP bank, which has been blacklisted by Kiev.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the results of these negotiations will determine whether the tranche for Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros from the European Peace Fund will be unblocked.
