Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced a state of emergency due to the conflict in Ukraine.
The state of emergency will come into force in Hungary from tomorrow.
Orban announced this on May 24 in a video message posted on the social network Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in Russia).
Orbán’s statement
The Hungarian Prime Minister said that due to the Ukrainian conflict, Hungary’s financial and energy security was under threat: the war and EU sanctions caused huge economic turmoil and sharp rises in prices.
The world is on the verge of an economic crisis, – stated the head of the Hungarian government.
Therefore, according to Orban, the government decided to exercise its constitutional right and declare a state of emergency.
Previously, the Hungarian prime minister said that the embargo on Russian oil would undermine Hungary’s energy security and result in a price shock for business and the population, and opposed ill-considered anti-Russian sanctions, the actions of which, according to him, are comparable to the effects of an atomic bomb and lead to mass migration and famine.
