Hungary objects to the provision of 5 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund.

This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó on January 22 before a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union.

The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry published a corresponding statement on the social network Facebook (banned in the Russian Federation; owned by the extremist company Meta, recognized in Russia).

What Szijjarto said

As the minister said, there are two serious security challenges on the EU Foreign Ministerial Council agenda: the Ukrainian and Middle Eastern conflicts.

He noted that there will be tough debates, since the war party in Brussels continues to invite EU countries to commit to supplying Ukraine with weapons for years to come.

So far for 5 billion euros, – the head of Hungarian diplomacy clarified.

Szijjártó stressed that the conflict in Ukraine has no solution on the battlefield.

The longer the war lasts, the more serious the losses will be. How can you not notice this? – he added.

Hungary warned that it would not support the provision of the next tranche for Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros from the European Peace Fund until the issue with the Hungarian OTP bank was resolved. He was included in the Ukrainian list of war sponsors, then was excluded, and Hungary demands guarantees from Ukraine that this will not happen again.

Budapest also does not support providing Ukraine with 50 billion euros from the EU budget for 2024-2027, proposing to allocate funds gradually.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky would legalize dual citizenship in the country.
