In Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was escorted out to punk rock music. She led the country for 16 years.

The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defense. The event was also attended by the current head of the defense department, Anne-Gret Kramp Karrenbauer.

The orchestra played Merkel’s favorite songs from her youth, when she studied at the Marx University in Leipzig (then a territory of the GDR).

By the way, Angela Merkel defended her dissertation on quantum, led the Komsomol organization and visited Donetsk.

As Russia’s Channel One, the orchestra performed a song commissioned by Merkel by punk singer Nina Hagen about the island of Hiddensee.

“I am convinced that we will continue to be able to change life for the better if we do not succumb to despondency, envy, pessimism, but work with joy in our hearts,” said the former chancellor.

And she added that she always adhered to this position even during the GDR, and even more so after – “in conditions of freedom.”

It is this joy in my heart that I wish for all of us and our country in the future,” Angela Merkel’s words were heard at the event.

Also in her speech, she named the most difficult episodes in her political career.

Among these are the economic crisis of 2008 and the migration crisis of 2015, when Merkel gave the go-ahead for millions of refugees to enter Germany, which aroused the anger of her compatriots.

The new Chancellor of Germany will most likely be Social Democrat Olaf Scholz. The Bundestag will vote on his candidacy on December 8.
