The Ig Nobel Prize winners have been announced. Scientists from 24 countries of the world claimed the title of the most ridiculous scientific discoveries.
The 31st award ceremony was held online amid the coronavirus pandemic. Awards were given for discoveries in economics, physics, medicine and other sciences.
Although the Ig Nobel Prize is awarded for bizarre discoveries, they are all of scientific value.
This year’s nominees are recognized in the following categories.
Medicine
In this area of knowledge, scientists have proven the effectiveness of orgasm in the fight against stuffy nose.
Economy
European scientists have been nominated for a prize for proving the connection between official obesity and the level of corruption.
Biology
The prize was awarded to Swedish scientists who analyzed cat purring as a way of “communication” between an animal and a person.
Ecology
The scientific contribution was the analysis of bacteria that were found on the surface of chewing gum spat out on city streets around the world.
Chemistry
In this case, the award went to evidence of a connection between the composition of the air in the auditorium and the genre of the film being broadcast.
Physics
Scientists have tried to figure out why some pedestrians collide with each other while driving and others do not.
The Cargo Transportation Research Award was presented for evidence of the safety of air transport of rhinos in an upside-down position.
The Ig Nobel Peace Prize was awarded for evidence that a man’s beard protects his face when punched.
