3views

A group of high-ranking military officers in Gabon have announced their takeover of power.

In addition, they reported the cancellation of the recently announced results of the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.

As TASS cited Reuters, the officers who seized power spoke on national television.

By the way, according to the voting results, the current president of the state won the elections in Gabon.

As for the military who did not agree with this, they, among other things, announced the closure of the borders “until further notice.”

It is noted that the coup occurred after the local electoral commission announced the re-election of the current head of state, Ali bin Bongo Ondimba, who received 64.2% of the votes following the election results.

Previously, the Gabon opposition stated that the authorities, in their opinion, violated the law during the elections, expressing their disagreement with the voting results.

The country imposed a curfew, blocked access to the Internet, and stopped broadcasting the French TV channel France 24 and radio station RFI.
