In Germany, German Leopard tanks supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces were called scrap metal

The head of the German Military-Political Society in Berlin, Ralph Thiele, spoke unflatteringly about his country’s tanks.

In particular, he called the “leopards” that Berlin supplies to Ukraine scrap metal.

The expert justified his assessment by the fact that Leopard 1 has many very serious shortcomings.

As the TASS agency, Mr. Thiele made such a statement during a conversation with representatives of Swiss Radio and Television.

If used incorrectly, even new systems turn into scrap metal. And we have old technology that needs to be used correctly for it to be useful, the analyst said.

At the same time, he emphasized, we are talking about all the “leopards” supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only by Germany, but also by other Western countries.

Thiele noted such shortcomings of the previous generation of “leopards” as weak on-board armor, low shooting accuracy compared to newer models, and the lack of a developed maintenance infrastructure.

According to him, the situation is due to the lack of production chains in Ukraine.

There is no space, no labor, no spare parts. This needs to be organized,” the expert noted.

He does not believe that one piece of equipment, the same “leopard,” can turn the situation around, especially since Kyiv does not have weapons systems to interact with such tanks.
