An Oklahoma jury acquitted 71-year-old Glynn Simmons, who served 48 years in prison on murder charges.

It turned out that in fact the man did not commit the act he was accused of, but spent almost half a century behind bars due to a miscarriage of justice.

TASS reported this with reference to the Associated Press agency, which writes that the court concluded Simmons’ innocence “based on specific and convincing evidence.”

In particular, this formulation was voiced by Judge Amy Palumbo, who noted that the court found the following: he did not commit the murder of which this man was accused.

By the way. In 1975, Simmons was sentenced to capital punishment – death.

Two years later, the sentence was changed to life imprisonment.

As a result, the man spent 48 years, 1 month and 18 days in prison, which became a record period in US history for victims of a miscarriage of justice.

It is noted that Simmons, 71, has the right to demand compensation from the state of up to $175,000.

Previously, the media reported that the policeman who killed George Floyd died after the assassination attempt.
