A serious emergency occurred in the American city of Baltimore (Maryland).

There, the Francis Scott Key road bridge collapsed after a container ship crashed into it.

The TASS agency reported the incident with reference to the Maryland Transportation Administration (MDTA).

Collapse of the I-695 Francis Scott Key Bridge caused by a ship strike, – the department said in a statement.

Currently, traffic on the bridge is closed in both directions; local authorities have organized detour routes.

Videos showing the moment the bridge collapsed are being circulated on social networks.

The footage also shows a large cargo ship crashing into one of the bridge’s supports.

The impact was so strong that the spans of the structure collapsed, and then the cars and people on the bridge fell into the water. Just like the metal structure itself.

According to Mayor Brandon Scott, rescuers are on the scene.

The Coast Guard in Baltimore said the ship was flying a Singapore flag.

According to ship tracking resources, the container ship Dali was heading through Baltimore to Colombo (the capital of Sri Lanka).

American television channel CBS said that city authorities called the incident “an incident with a large number of casualties.”

Earlier in China, a cargo ship bridge, a bus crashed into the water.
