Information has appeared in the media about when Sweden and Finland may apply to join NATO.

It is expected that this could happen as early as early next week. Moreover, both countries will submit applications simultaneously.

The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper has this information, as reported by Rossiya Segodnya.

Finland and Sweden plan to submit their bids to NATO simultaneously early next week. Ideally, applications can be delivered to headquarters at the same time – says an article in a foreign publication.

Previously, the press stated that the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, intended to publicly express his own opinion on Suomi’s accession to NATO.

He planned to do this on May 12. And on the same day, Prime Minister Sanna Marin planned to speak about a topic of current concern to Finnish society.

Soon after this, a two-day visit to Sweden (May 17-18) by the Finnish leader is due to take place.

There he is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.

It is as a result of this meeting that the parties can make a joint statement on the entry of Helsinki and Stockholm into NATO.
