It’s all about the shortage of explosives. The reason for the problems with providing assistance to Kyiv has been named

It recently became known what the problems are associated with in the production of weapons supplied to Ukraine, which, accordingly, affect the supplies themselves.

As The Economist magazine writes, citing experts, the pace of weapons production for Kyiv has slowed down due to a shortage of explosives in the EU countries.

TASS, who reviewed the publication, reports: after the end of the Cold War, many manufacturers in Europe either significantly reduced production of products due to a sharp drop in demand for them, or completely closed their enterprises.

What is the situation today

Thus, the UK closed its last explosives factory in 2008.

In other countries, many state-owned enterprises have been privatized or mothballed.

Today, the only plant producing TNT operating in the European Union is located in Poland.

According to the magazine, only a few companies currently produce high-energy materials that meet NATO standards for artillery charges and missiles.

We are talking about the Norwegian Chemring Nobel and the French Eurenco. Both recorded an increase in orders after the start of the SVO.

Investments and construction

The article goes on to say that some defense companies have begun to invest more intensively in expanding their production, helped by subsidies from Brussels.

But if you build a plant from scratch, it will take from 3 to 7 years, noted one of the magazine’s experts.

As an example, the explosives production complex being built by the German concern Rheinmetall in Hungary is cited, which will begin operation no earlier than 2027.

According to analysts, another problem in the way of expanding production may be the safety and environmental regulations in force in the European Union.

Searches outside Europe

The third serious difficulty, they say, is the acute shortage of qualified workers.

And also, they note, the supply of critical raw materials, including nitrocellulose, necessary for the production of relevant products, is now under threat.

Under such circumstances, some ammunition suppliers are looking abroad for explosives, including in countries such as India and Japan.

At the same time, the article notes, they fear that the products, due to their lower quality, may damage the military equipment and weapons themselves.

Earlier in the US Congress they showed the Russian Federation with a zone of destruction by American missiles.
