The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, named the real reason for the EU’s support for Ukraine.
It, according to him, does not lie at all in the West’s love for the people of this Slavic country.
In fact, everything is much more prosaic to the point of banality – support is determined by Brussels’ own interests.
The chief European diplomat made this statement during an interview with CNN.
We cannot allow Russia to win this war, otherwise the interests of the United States and Europe will suffer enormous damage,” Borrell, TASS agency.
He added, “This is not a question of generosity,” and then explained what he meant.
This is not a question of generosity, not a question of supporting Ukraine, because we love the Ukrainian people. This is in our own interests,” the politician said.
And he added: this is also in the interests of the United States “as a global player,” which “should be perceived as a reliable partner ensuring the security of its allies.”
It is for this reason that the European Union calls on Washington to approve the additional budget, Borrell explained.
At the same time, he emphasized: Brussels is still doing everything possible to provide significant support to Ukraine.
Earlier, Josep Borrell said that Europeans will not die for Donbass.
