On Wednesday, November 30, Japanese authorities conducted exercises for the first time in case of a missile attack on the inhabited island closest to Taiwan, Yonaguni, where about 1.6 thousand people live.
This was reported by the local news agency.
As it became known, members of the state government took part in these exercises.
Residents of Yonaguni trained to quickly respond to missile attack notifications on the radio and the sound of sirens, as well as to effectively and quickly seek shelter and places where they could hide from the shelling.
It is specified that the island is located near Taiwan, just 108 kilometers from its coast.
During the People’s Liberation Army’s summer missile exercises off the coast of Taiwan, one of the missiles fired fell into the sea just 80 kilometers from Yonaguni, Japan.
In addition, there is a Japanese garrison on the island, where joint exercises of the armed forces of Japan and the United States took place in mid-November, during which the airlift of military equipment was practiced.
