Japan raises age of sexual consent to 16

0views

Japan’s parliament has passed a law that may not appeal to all teenagers.

The fact is that this document raises the age of consent for sex in the country from 13 to 16 years.

RBC reported this with reference to The Japan Times, which drew attention to the fact that this rule was changed for the first time since its adoption in 1907.

According to the innovation, now making love with those under 16 years of age is regarded as rape.

But there is one exception. They will not be held accountable if a person who is no more than five years older than him had sexual relations with a teenager aged 13 to 16 years.

By the way, in the Land of the Rising Sun they also changed the definition of “rape”.

If earlier this term was understood in Japan as “forcible sexual intercourse,” it is now interpreted as “sexual intercourse without consent.”

The nuance is that, according to the previous definition, those who were forced to have sex had no protection.

Among other things, legislators increased the period during which rape allegations will be accepted – from 10 to 15 years.

The law provides for holding persons accountable if their sexual partner did not make it clear that he wanted this, for example, he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was scared, was taken by surprise, was threatened, etc.

The law prohibits peeping under skirts and secretly filming sexual acts.

Those who intimidate, entice or offer money to people under 16 for sex face a year in prison or a fine of up to 500,000 yen (about $3,570).
