In an interview with the program WW This Tuesday (8), Gilberto Kassab, national president of the PSD, reaffirmed the party’s liberal position and its commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Kassab emphasized that the PSD maintains a careful stance in relation to economic issues, seeking a balance between necessary investments and spending control.
According to the party leader, the PSD’s economic program was prepared by Guilherme Afif Domingos, a renowned liberal economist. Kassab clarified: “It is clear that a liberal from a center party, a liberal program, is a party that allows significant spending on public health, education, defense, the Judiciary.”
Position on current economic issues
When asked about controversial economic topics, such as the renegotiation of Minas Gerais’ debts proposed by senator Rodrigo Pacheco, Kassab defended the role of parliamentarians in representing their states.
He compared the situation with the successful negotiation of Campo de Marte in São Paulo, highlighting that it is up to the economic area and the President of the Republic to consider and establish limits for such proposals.
The PSD president also addressed the issue of the gas expansion project, proposed by minister Alexandre Silveira. Kassab stated that, although he agrees with the concern about bringing gas to underserved regions, it is the role of the economic area and the President of the Republic to dose these initiatives.
Commitment to fiscal responsibility
Kassab concluded by reiterating the PSD’s commitment to fiscal responsibility: “The PSD is enormously concerned about the issue of fiscal responsibility and we would always be on the side of those who defend fiscal responsibility”.
He recalled that the party supported the spending cap law, unlike left-wing parties, and stated that the PSD would maintain this position.
