Unknown people stole the legendary sword of the knight Roland, a world-famous character from the French medieval epic.

These weapons were kept in a very famous village in France called Rocamadour.

About the crime of the villains who coveted such a rare and undoubtedly valuable thing MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the newspaper Le Figaro.

What the mayor said

This is the same sword that was mentioned in The Song of Roland. It was stuck into a rock in the named village (department of Lot), located at the foot of the Pyrenees.

The mayor of Rocamadour, Dominique Lanfant, called the stolen sword the most important attraction of the commune, indicated in every guidebook.

In 2011, these weapons were brought to an exhibition at the Cluny Museum in Paris.

According to the mayor, the size of the sword is 80 centimeters, which was considered a small weapon of this type in the Middle Ages.

This sword, says Lanfang, was forged to stun people or horses, and not to kill them.

Although it is a legend, Rocamadour has been associated with it for centuries and the sword has been part of our history,” he added.

Investigation

The prosecutor’s office said that the sword was stolen on June 22, and an investigation into the incident is underway.

According to the rector of the sanctuary of Mary located in the rock, Pastor Florent Millet, the absence of the sword in its proper place was discovered by one of the volunteers.

It is known that the weapon was located at an altitude of several tens of meters.

Due to the tourist season, a copy of the sword will be installed in the rock during the investigation, writes the Ouest-France newspaper.

By the way, legend says that any woman who touches Roland’s sword will get married and become pregnant.

In terms of its popularity, Roland’s sword is comparable to the legendary “Excalibur” of King Arthur.

Earlier it became known that an eighth-grader appeared in the case of Simonyan and Sobchak.
