Kuril Islands. Japan sent a strong protest to Russia

68views

The Japanese government sent Russia a “strong protest” in connection with the Kremlin’s decision.

We are talking about the termination of agreements regarding a simplified procedure for visiting the Kuril Islands by Japanese citizens.

Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers Hirokazu Matsuno spoke about the protest addressed to Moscow during a press conference.

We have lodged a strong protest against this decision, – Secretary General of MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

And according to a statement by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Russia’s decision is “absolutely unfounded and unacceptable.”

According to him, the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions is connected with the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, while the Kremlin’s actions in relation to the Kuril Islands affect exclusively bilateral relations.

Hence the politician comes to the conclusion that Moscow is “trying to shift responsibility to Japan.”

As of now, we have not received any preliminary notifications from Russia regarding this issue,” said Mr. Hayashi.

Let us recall that the decision to terminate agreements on simplified visits by the Japanese to the Kuril Islands is contained in the order of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
