In Latvia, the epidemiological situation has seriously deteriorated due to the spread of coronavirus infection.

In this regard, the Baltic country will go into a strict lockdown for four weeks.

Quarantine will begin on October 21. Its completion is scheduled for November 15.

This was reported by foreign Internet sources with reference to a statement by the head of the Latvian government, Krisjanis Karins.

It is noted that strict restrictive measures will be in force in Latvia for almost a month.

Almost all retail facilities will not be open. The same applies to entertainment and educational institutions.

Situation with COVID-19 in Latvia

In recent days, the daily increase in coronavirus infections has sharply increased in the Baltic country.

If in the summer about 50 people fell ill every day in Latvia, and by mid-September – about 300-400, now the figure exceeds 2 thousand.

In this regard, the burden on the country’s medical system has seriously increased. It is possible that after some time the staff of medical institutions will not have time to provide assistance to all patients.

According to Krisjanis Karins, the reason for what is happening is the low proportion of vaccinated people among the Latvian population.
