Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics announced the transformation of the Baltic Sea into the sea of the North Atlantic Alliance.

This is how the head of Latvian diplomacy commented on the plans of Finland and Sweden to join NATO.

As reported, Rinkevichs, together with the heads of the Lithuanian and Estonian Foreign Ministries Gabrielius Landsbergis and Eva-Maria Liimets, said that the Baltic countries intend to ratify the applications of Sweden and Finland to join the alliance as soon as possible.

The Baltic countries believe that this will contribute to strengthening their own security and capacity to repel an attack.

The Baltic Sea becomes a NATO sea, – noted Rinkevichs.

His colleague Landsbergis called the planned entry of Finland and Sweden into the alliance a very clear message that Northern Europe is NATO territory.

The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, in turn, noted that the Finnish army is fully compatible with the NATO Armed Forces, which was confirmed during joint international missions.

According to Liimets, as a result of Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the alliance itself will be significantly strengthened and security in the Baltic Sea region and Northern Europe will be strengthened.
