Lava from an erupting volcano in the Canaries has reached the ocean: what consequences will this lead to?

3views

In the Canary Islands, the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, which awoke on September 19, is still ongoing.

The incident occurs on the island of Palma, foreign Internet sources report.

It is noted that lava flows have already reached the Atlantic Ocean.

The combination of a hot volcanic mass with water is a very dangerous process that can lead to serious consequences.

The fact is that the result of this chemical reaction is the release of toxic gases that pose a danger to the human body.

The resulting clouds have already appeared on the coast of the island. In this regard, the authorities of the Canary Islands decided not to allow ships into the territorial waters of the island.

The ban applies over a fairly large distance – about 4 kilometers.

Let us remind you that the evacuation was announced on the island of Palma 10 days ago. At the moment, 6 thousand people have left the territory.

In total, 80 thousand people live on the island.

It is worth noting that the Cumbre Vieja volcano “slept” for 50 years. It has not erupted between 1971 and 2021.
