Leite says he received guarantees that money for reconstruction of RS will not be used for any other purpose

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, said, this Tuesday (18), that he received guarantees from the federal government that there is no risk of them being used for any other purpose.

The statement was made shortly after meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in which the creation of a governance committee to manage a R$7 billion fund allocated to these works was discussed.

“We have not yet seen the provisional measure on this fund. But what is announced by the federal government is precisely intended to be able to separate, separate, shield this resource for this,” she explained.

There is an understanding that in the calamity, expenses for the reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul are excluded from the fiscal framework. “If this were not done, as these works take time to be carried out, they would be subject to the fiscal framework regime, limiting the allocation of resources”, added the governor.

During the meeting with Lula, Leite also asked that the government’s political articulation encourage the National Congress to vote on the bill that establishes the Special Contracting Regime.

Another point discussed with the president concerns agribusiness. A series of regulations for those affected by the floods came out only last Friday (13).

According to the governor, there is concern, for example, about the deadline until October 15th to adhere to the debt financing format. “The resources that are currently available via the social fund also do not seem to be sufficient”, he added.
