64views

The Seimas of Lithuania approved the decree of President Gitanas Nausėda on the denunciation of the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

103 deputies voted for its adoption, with one against and three abstaining.

About the event, the TASS agency recalled statements previously made by Lithuanian politicians on this occasion.

In particular, they said that the country’s army should have all the necessary means of strengthening its defense capability.

Attention was drawn to the fact that of the states bordering Russia, only two are members of the Convention: Lithuania and Norway.

Let us add that Vilnius joined the said Convention three years after its adoption – in 2011.

The Baltic country’s Ministry of Defense sees cluster munitions as an effective means of combat.

The department believes that the Lithuanian army should use them, since a potential enemy will definitely use this type of ammunition.
