56views

Lithuania stated that the country’s capacity to accommodate refugees from Ukraine has been exhausted.

In the event of a new influx of Ukrainian refugees, which, according to forecasts by the Lithuanian division of the ICRC, could begin in the fall, Lithuania will face the problem of accommodating them.

This was reported, citing the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the republic.

Refugee situation in Lithuania

According to a statement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Lithuania, NGOs helping with the reception and resettlement of refugees have recently repeatedly noted that almost all possibilities have been exhausted.

The department noted that they will monitor the situation and work to ensure that in the event of a new influx of Ukrainian refugees, they are provided with accommodation “providing basic needs.”

Let us recall that on Monday the Lithuanian division of the ICC predicted a new influx of refugees from Ukraine with the onset of cold weather, noting that in many Ukrainian regions the infrastructure of water supply and central heating was completely destroyed.

How many refugees are there in Lithuania?

According to the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, there are currently 61.2 thousand Ukrainian refugees in the country.

Vilnius claims that the country is one of the leaders in the European Union in terms of the number of accepted Ukrainian refugees in relation to the population.
