Lithuanian Railways resumed transit to Kaliningrad

54views

On July 22, Lithuanian Railways resumed the transit of goods arriving from Russia to the Kaliningrad region.

The decision to ban was in effect from June 18. Thus, the country’s authorities tried to support anti-Russian sanctions. A company representative commented on the decision to cancel.

Mantas Dubauskas expressed his point of view on the local TV channel LRT.

We can absolutely say that the ban on transit has been lifted and LZD is ready to move customers’ cargo.

Customers are informed that they can already transport them, since we have received clarifications,” MIA quotes the words of a company representative.

At the same time, Dubauskas could not explain what exactly he would go to Kaliningrad.

It’s difficult to say what cargo will be transported today… If customers manage to transport it today, then it is possible that some products will be transported today, the statement says.

Let us recall that on June 18, official Vilnius stopped the transit of goods by rail to the Kaliningrad region.

Construction materials, metal, fertilizers, alcohol and other categories, including hotel food products, were then subject to European sanctions.

Lithuania justified its actions by saying that the authorities were simply complying with sanctions.

In response to this, the Kremlin said that Moscow would take tough retaliatory measures if the transit issue was not resolved.

As a result, the EC developed comments on the sanctions. The document allows rail transit to the Kaliningrad region from Russia, but subject to proper control.

Transit of the “sanctioned” vehicles by road is still prohibited.
