After the failure of the main aircraft, the delegation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) took off this Tuesday (1), at around 11:40 pm (Brasília time), from Mexico City towards Brasília.
According to Planalto’s press office, Lula took off on the Presidency’s reserve plane from Felipe Angeles International Airport. There is a forecast of a stop in Panama at around 3:30 am, with a break of around an hour for refueling. Landing in Brasília should take place at 10:30 am.
The first plane, the , suffered a technical problem and had to fly in circles for around five hours. The aircraft needed to burn fuel to return to the airport from where it had departed and land safely. The plane took off at 5:19 pm and landed at 10:16 pm Brasília time.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) did not detail what technical problem there was in the VC-1. Lula traveled to Mexico for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration.
First lady Janja da Silva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and the economist Gabriel Galípolo, nominated for the presidency of the Central Bank (BC), were among the members of the delegation .
