Lula chooses PT deputy Macaé Evaristo for Human Rights

43views

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) chose, this Monday (9), state deputy Macaé Evaristo (PT-MG) as the new Minister of Human Rights.

The PT parliamentarian helped implement racial inclusion and full-time school policies at the Ministry of Education.

Lula met twice, this Monday, with the PT member before defining her name. The choice was endorsed by the national president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann.

The president’s first choice was former governor of Rio de Janeiro Benedita da Silva (PT). But, for personal reasons, the current federal deputy declined.

Lula had announced on Friday (6) that he intended to define the name of the new Minister of Human Rights as quickly as possible.

Last week, Silvio Almeida left his position after allegations of sexual harassment, which allegedly involved his then colleague Anielle Franco, Minister of Racial Equality.
