Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took the oath of office as President of Brazil and officially took office as head of state.
The presidential elections in Brazil were held on October 30, 2022, during which the winner, Lula da Silva, was declared following the results of the second round of voting.
Last Sunday, the winner officially took office after taking the oath, MIA reports.
50.9% of voters voted for Lula da Silva. The gap from the then-current head of state, Jair Bolsonaro, was minimal. 49.1% of citizens voted for the now former president.
The inauguration took place in the country’s Congress. The new government of Brazil was also introduced.
The country’s 37 ministries were headed by representatives of Brazilian parties and non-party candidates.
It is reported that at this time a rally was held near the president’s residence, at which supporters of the new leader gathered.
This is Lula da Silva’s third presidential term. He led the country from 2003 to 2010.
In a corruption case in 2017, he was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison. Then the period was increased by another 2.5 years.
Lula did not admit guilt and, after appealing the verdict, the Supreme Court of Brazil annulled the verdict, which made it possible for Lula to take part in the elections.
