President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) arrived in Brasília (DF) at 10:12 am this Wednesday (2nd), after a failure on the presidential plane late yesterday afternoon (1st). Because of technical problems, the Chief Executive took off in a reserve aircraft belonging to the Presidency from Felipe Angeles International Airport, in Mexico.
The flight made a scheduled stop in Panama City, Panama, during the early hours of the morning to refuel. The plane took off from Mexico City at around 11:40 pm (Brasília time). In a statement, the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat reported that the “flight was peaceful without any complications”.
The main plane, the VC-1, suffered one and had to fly in circles for around five hours before returning to the airport from where it had started. The had to burn fuel as part of a safety procedure. The VC-1 took off at 5:19 pm and landed at 10:16 pm Brasília time.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) did not detail which aircraft it presented. Lula traveled to Mexico for the inauguration of the country’s elected president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
First lady Janja da Silva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and the economist Gabriel Galípolo, nominated for the presidency of the Central Bank (BC), were among the members of the delegation .
