President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (8) that the European Union is “threatening” Brazil because of the fires. The head of the Executive did not detail in which negotiations these threats would be taking place, but the European bloc is negotiating a trade agreement with the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), of which Brazil is part.

The statement by the Chief Executive was made during the ceremony to sanction the Future Fuel Law, at the Brasília Air Base. The text establishes the increase in the mixture of ethanol and biodiesel with gasoline and diesel, respectively, and creates national programs for green diesel, sustainable aviation fuel and biomethane.

“You all know that the European Union is threatening us, that it will put the fires on the negotiating table. We are saying: ‘don’t put it in’. Don’t put it because we are preserving more than you have ever preserved in history”, he stated.

according to the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden).

In September, the state of Amazonas reached a historic record for fire outbreaks, according to monitoring by the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe),

the federal government sent a provisional measure (MP) to Congress to open extraordinary credit of R$514 million for the Legal Amazon. The measure was defined after authorization from the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Flávio Dino, to release resources outside the fiscal framework for fire prevention, without impact on fiscal goals.
