The president (PT) already has at least five meetings planned on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, in New York, which takes place next week.

Meetings are being negotiated with the Prime Minister of Germany, Olaf Scholz, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.

Lula is also expected to meet with Ursula Von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, and Michèle Pierre-Louis, Prime Minister of Haiti.

According to CNN found out, the PT member received at least 30 requests for bilateral meetings. The official agenda has not yet been released.

Lula and the Spanish Prime Minister will hold a round table to discuss democracy and extremism on Tuesday afternoon (24). The German Chancellor and the French President must participate in the debate, which will deal with the protection of institutions and the impacts that disinformation has had on democratic processes.

In the conversation with Von Der Leyen, the Brazilian intends to review the negotiations for a free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, which are moving slowly. It will be the first meeting between the two since Von Der Leyen was re-elected for a new five-year term in July this year.

Lula leaves this Saturday (21) for New York, where he will give the traditional opening speech to the UN General Assembly, on Tuesday (25). The president’s return is scheduled for next Wednesday (25).

In his speech, Lula must address issues that are on the G20 agenda and address the fight against hunger, the climate crisis, energy transition and global governance reform.

On Sunday, Lula will participate in the opening of the Summit of the Future, a meeting of world leaders convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres. Topics such as sustainable development, international peace and security, science, technology and digital cooperation, youth and future generations and global governance reform will be debated.

The objective is that at the end of the summit a document will be published with the main objectives and commitments of the United Nations members towards the future of multilateralism.
