Lula summons governors to discuss fires

18views

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, has called on governors to participate in a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

At the meeting, scheduled for Thursday (19), the president must demand greater commitment from states in combating fires across the country.

A significant part of the burned areas belongs to federal territory.

The assessment of members of the federal government, however, is that some regions rely on this fact to avoid the responsibility of taking care of preventing and fighting fire.

The argument, however, is that there are no “Union firefighters” but “state firefighters” and that the National Force is also not sufficient to act without state help.

The idea from the meeting is to draw up a coordinated action plan together with the states that encompasses everything from brigade action to police investigations.
