French President Emmanuel Macron said that the upcoming European Union summit will be decisive for the possible admission of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and the countries of the Western Balkans to the community.

Macron made this statement on December 13 before the start of a meeting with the head of the Slovenian government, Robert Golob.

What Macron said about the EU summit

According to the French President, at the summit scheduled for December 14-15, it is planned to discuss the prospects for EU enlargement and make decisions regarding Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the countries of the Western Balkans.

The discussions that will take place tomorrow will be decisivesaid the head of the French state.

He stressed that France and Slovenia will provide Ukraine with economic, military, diplomatic and humanitarian support as long as necessary.

Macron noted that reform of the EU will also be discussed at the summit. In this context, the French President emphasized the need to develop the European Political Community, created at the initiative of Paris last year.

It is assumed that participation in this format will replace the prospect of EU membership for countries that Brussels wants to draw into its orbit, but is not ready to motivate with the possibility of admission to the EU.

The Slovenian prime minister said before the meeting with Macron that the summit would be difficult, but important for the future of the EU.

According to him, for enlargement to be effective, the EU needs to carry out reforms, including enlargement procedures and decision-making.
