French President Emmanuel Macron warned that Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance would be perceived by Russia as confrontation.
Therefore, according to Macron, the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine can occur without its entry into NATO, but with security guarantees.
The head of the French state stated this in an interview with the French publication Le Monde, reports.
What does Macron offer?
Noting that Ukraine’s entry into NATO is “not the most likely scenario,” the French president warned that Russia would perceive this as “something confrontational.”
Therefore, Macron believes, the conflict in Ukraine can be resolved without the country joining the alliance, but with the provision of security guarantees.
The French leader believes that the future European security architecture should provide guarantees not only for Ukraine and the European Union, but also for Russia, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
And tomorrow the question will arise about Belarus, – warned the French head of state.
According to him, the sovereignty of Ukraine must be restored, but one cannot think about the security of Ukraine only through the prism of NATO.
At the same time, Macron emphasized that France stands for the absolute protection and victory of Ukraine and that this should be recorded in a peace agreement following the conflict.
As for security guarantees for Russia, they, according to the French president, are not a priority, but only “one of the things that will be decided in the end.”
The priority today is to protect Ukraine, which is what we have been doing since day one, – recalled Macron.
