French President Emmanuel Macron, at an urgent meeting after the attack on a school in Arras, ordered the use of up to 7,000 military personnel to maintain order on the streets.

This was reported by the French radio station RTL.

What measures are being taken in France after an attack on a school?

According to the report, according to Macron’s instructions, from today until Monday evening there will be a gathering of military personnel to participate in Operation Sentinel.

The military will patrol the streets of French cities until further notice.

Operation Sentinel was launched in 2015 by order of then head of state Francois Hollande after a series of terrorist attacks in Paris.

As part of this operation, 3,000 military personnel patrol city streets on a permanent basis.

Thus, Macron ordered to more than double the presence of the military on the streets.

Earlier, the French authorities announced the introduction of a maximum level of terrorist threat.

The decision on this was made by the head of the country’s government, Elisabeth Born, after a meeting chaired by Macron.

What is known about the attack on a school in France

Yesterday morning a guy with a knife attacked the lyceum in Arras. As a result of the attack, a teacher was killed and three people were seriously injured.

French media, citing police sources, reported that the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar!”

The attacker was detained by the police. He turned out to be a 20-year-old native of Chechnya, who appears on the lists of persons posing a threat to state security and radical Islamists who are being monitored in order to prevent terrorist attacks.

The attacker’s brother was detained at another school. In total, 8 people were detained in connection with the attack on the school.

This is not the first time teachers have been attacked in French schools. According to media reports, about 10 teachers have died as a result of such attacks over the past 40 years.

One of the most notorious was the murder in 2020 of history teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded by Chechen refugee Abdullah Anzorov.

The attacker was shot dead by police. In November, 14 people, including six teenagers, will be tried for their involvement in this crime.
