Mayor of Goiânia goes back and keeps 2,000 employees employed

42views

The current mayor of Goiânia, Rogério Cruz (Solidariedade), went back and decided to maintain the employment of 2,000 commissioned employees who had been fired this Tuesday morning (8).

In a new publication in the Official Gazette, Cruz determines that the effects of previously published decrees be suspended. Therefore, the commissioners remain in their positions.

The decision of the mayor — who sought re-election, but was defeated at the polls last Sunday (6) — was the target of criticism and demonstrations by unions.

The Journalists Union of Goiás, for example, sent a letter to the mayor and said that, “regardless of the outcome of the elections and the final period of the mandate, it is necessary that the population continues to be informed of the activities and services provided by the city hall of Goiânia”.

Among the 2,000 dismissed, there were at least 50 journalists, who held communications and advisory positions in various city hall departments.

In a statement, the city hall, which had said that the dismissals were part of a “reorganization of the public sector”, did not clarify the reasons for having revoked the decision.
