The European Parliament has supported the European Commission’s project to create a financing mechanism to provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros until 2027.

The press service of the European Parliament informed about this on October 5.

What assistance does the European Commission propose to provide to Ukraine?

The EP communique states that the Foreign Affairs and Budget Committees have amended and approved the EC’s proposal to provide 50 billion euros to support the mechanism for the recovery, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine from 2024.

The EP advocated that the mechanism and the new budget be approved as soon as possible.

From 2024 there will be no provisions on assistance to Ukraine, – noted in the statement.

As for the amendments, one of the main demands of the EP put forward the use of assets of the Russian Federation or other legal entities and individuals directly related to the conflict for the restoration of Ukraine.

The EP also proposed tightening provisions on the fight against corruption, fraud, conflicts of interest and violations in the use of EU assistance in Ukraine.

Separately, the EP advocated the creation of a special website for publishing data on financial transactions in favor of Ukraine.

In addition, the EP advocated the publication of funds received by Ukraine from international organizations and third countries. It is proposed to develop a reform plan for Ukraine with the participation of the EP.

Voting on the draft report on this topic is due to take place at the plenary session in Strasbourg on October 16-19.

Negotiations with member states can begin as soon as the EU Council develops a common position, – said in the communiqué.

Let us recall that in June the EC announced its intention to provide budget funding for Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros in 2024-2027. This amounts to approximately 1.04 billion euros per month, which does not correspond to the stated goal of doubling EU aid to Ukraine, since this year it amounts to one and a half billion euros per month.
