Merkel: Minsk agreements were an attempt to give Ukraine time to become stronger

0views

Former German Prime Minister Angela Merkel said that the Minsk agreements were an attempt to give Ukraine time to become stronger.

According to Merkel, Ukraine managed to use this time.

The ex-chancellor stated this in an interview with the German publication published on December 7.

What Merkel said

The former head of the German government said that the signing of the Minsk agreements was an attempt to give Ukraine time and that Ukraine used this valuable time to become stronger.

Ukraine 2014-15 is not modern Ukraine, – stated the politician.

She noted that then it was clear to everyone that the problem had not been resolved and that the conflict was only frozen.

Merkel also expressed the opinion that at that time the North Atlantic Alliance would hardly have been able to provide Ukraine with the support it does now.

Let us recall that on February 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that after Russia recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR, the Minsk agreements no longer exist.
Putin emphasized that the Minsk agreements ceased to exist through no fault of Russia. According to him, they were killed by Kyiv long before the recognition of the Donbass republics.
