Monument to George Floyd erected in New York

9views

On the occasion of a memorable date in the United States – Slave Emancipation Day – a monument to George Floyd, who died at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin, was erected and unveiled in Brooklyn in New York.

Let us recall that the death of Floyd in May last year provoked a wave of protests and pogroms in the United States.

Floyd was buried with unprecedented honors. The coffin with his body was carried by a white hearse drawn by white horses.

Now a two-meter monument to George Floyd, made of light-colored stone, has appeared on the streets of Brooklyn.

According to the architect’s plans, the composition symbolizes the strength and dignity of the late African American.

A member of the New York City Council, as well as the brother of the deceased Floyd, took part in the opening of the monument.

For reference, the US federal holiday, Emancipation Day, will be celebrated annually on June 19.

The corresponding decision was made and approved by US President Joe Biden.

Let us recall that after the riots in memory of the deceased, the George Floyd Scholarship was established in the United States, initiated by the administration of North Central University in Minneapolis.

It was also decided to pay the family of the deceased a record $27 million.
