Moraes blocks R$18 million from X and Starlink, transfers money to União and releases accounts

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) released the bank accounts and financial assets of X (formerly Twitter) and , after blocking a total of R$18.3 million from the companies.

The following were blocked:

  • R$ 7,282,135.14 from X Brasil accounts:
  • R$ 11,067,864.86 from Starlink Brazil Serviços de Internet Ltda.

The amount corresponds to fines owed by the platform to the Court.

The STF was informed on Thursday (12) by Banco Citibank SA and Itaú Unibanco SA that they had completed the transfers to the Union’s account at Banco do Brasil.

The decision to transfer the money was made by Moraes on Wednesday (11).

O to guarantee the payment of fines imposed by the STF on X.

According to the Court, with the payment of the fines, Moraes understands that there are no reasons to maintain the restriction.

“With full payment of the amount due, the minister considered that there was no longer a need to keep the accounts blocked and ordered the immediate unblocking of the bank accounts/financial assets, motor vehicles and real estate of the aforementioned companies, with an official letter being sent to the Central Bank of Brazil, official communication to the CVM (Securities Commission) and the RENAJUD (Judicial Restrictions on Motor Vehicles) and CNIB (National Center for Unavailability of Goods) systems”, said the STF.

OX was in ongoing investigations, in addition to having removed the company’s legal representatives in Brazil.

The conduct led to , by order of Moraes. The decision was confirmed unanimously by the first panel of the Court.

Both X and Starlink are owned by billionaire Elon Musk.

Moraes understood that there was a so-called joint responsibility between the companies for paying the penalties. According to the judge, the existence of a “de facto economic group” was recognized.

Starlink, and now there is no more recourse.
