Moraes’ decisions reflect the STF’s collective sentiment, Barroso tells CNN

The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), stated that Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ decisions have the support of his other colleagues and, more than that, “correspond to the Court’s institutional sentiment in defense of democracy”.

The statement was made during an exclusive interview with CNN Interviewswhich airs this Saturday.

For Barroso, Moraes “has had a very important, courageous and firm performance that has helped the country in difficult times” of turbulence.

“He has been able to play this role because this is a majority view in the Supreme Court”, he said, highlighting that the decisions have been confirmed collegiately, like the .

“Therefore, it is not a personalistic or monocratic thing. It reflects a collective feeling of protecting democracy. It is clear that each person, when conducting an investigation, conducts it with their own personality characteristics, but there is an institutionality behind it.”

Barroso also stated that Moraes operates at a significant “personal cost”, as his actions generate constant threats to his safety and upset his family.
