NATO countries officially invited Finland and Sweden to the alliance

Sweden and Finland have been officially invited to the North Atlantic Alliance.

This decision was made by NATO leaders on June 29 at a summit in Madrid.

The alliance reportedly reaffirmed its commitment to an open door policy and decided to invite Sweden and Finland to join NATO.

We agreed to sign accession protocols, – said in the statement.

NATO believes that the accession of Finland and Sweden to the alliance will make it stronger and the Euro-Atlantic region safer.

The organization emphasized the importance of taking into account the legitimate security interests of all NATO members and in this regard welcomed the conclusion of a trilateral memorandum by Turkey, Sweden and Finland.
