NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organization has significantly expanded the production in Eastern European countries of Soviet-style weapons and ammunition that Ukraine needs.

Stoltenberg announced this information on November 25 at a press conference ahead of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Bucharest, which will take place on November 29-30.

What Stoltenberg said

Answering a question about Germany’s refusal to deploy Patriot air defense systems in Ukraine, the NATO Secretary General noted that the organization has significantly increased the production of weapons and ammunition in the countries of Eastern Europe that are members of the alliance, which are urgently needed by Ukraine.

He recalled that Ukraine still has a lot of Soviet artillery left, for which spare parts and ammunition are needed, and that a number of countries on NATO’s eastern flank still have significant production capacity to produce Soviet-style weapons.

According to Stoltenberg, at a meeting with industry representatives last week, increasing arms production for Ukraine was discussed.

The head of the organization noted that in some cases the expansion of weapons production can happen quickly, in some it is already happening, in others it will take more time.

He explained that sometimes to expand production it is enough to launch new shifts at existing enterprises and production lines, but in some cases it is necessary to open new enterprises and launch new lines.

Which requires additional investment and time. But we need even more weapons, – concluded the head of the organization.
