NATO is considering putting its nuclear weapons on alert

62views

Representatives of NATO member countries began discussing the possibility of bringing their nuclear weapons to a state of combat readiness.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph about this.

At the same time, he did not want to disclose information about exactly how many nuclear warheads NATO considers necessary to bring into working order, or how they are supposed to be stored.

We need to consult on these issues. That’s exactly what we do – a high-ranking official from the TASS agency.

Direct signal

According to his statement, “transparency” on the designated topic “helps send a clear signal” that NATO is a “nuclear Alliance.”

According to Stoltenberg, the goal of the organization he heads is to ensure that there are no nuclear weapons left in the world.

But as long as it exists, we will remain a nuclear Alliance, because a world where Russia, China and North Korea have nuclear weapons, but NATO does not, is a dangerous world,” he noted.

The Secretary General is particularly concerned about the Celestial Empire, since, according to him, it is investing substantial capital in the creation of modern types of weapons.

In addition, Stoltenberg is aware that China is planning to increase the number of its own nuclear warheads to 1,000 by 2030.

This means that in the near future, NATO may be faced with a previously unprecedented situation – two potential nuclear adversaries in China and Russia. This will lead to consequences,” said the head of the military-political bloc.

USA, Britain, France

At the same time, he added, the United States and its allies in Europe are updating their nuclear arsenals.

The United States is upgrading its gravity bombs for the nuclear warheads it has deployed in Europe, and European allies are upgrading aircraft intended for NATO’s nuclear mission, Stoltenberg said.

In turn, The Daily Telegraph writes that the UK currently has about 40 of its 225 nuclear warheads deployed, while the US has 1,700 (another 3,700 in stock).

But France, as follows from the publication, does not provide its nuclear weapons to NATO, adhering to the long-standing principle of independence in the matter of deterrence.

Earlier, Orban announced that NATO would create 3 bases for supplying weapons to Ukraine.
