NATO saw the threat of conflict in the Arctic

20views

One of the representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance named a factor due to which the risk of conflict in the Arctic region is increasing.

According to Admiral Rob Bauer, this factor is the strengthening of relations between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.

The NATO expert believes that the military-political bloc must be prepared for an aggravation of the situation in the Arctic.

At the same time, Bauer emphasized: despite all the threats, there are no concerns about a potential drastic change in the situation in the region.

We’re not worried that the Arctic will “immediately” become a hot spot, – MIA quotes Rob Bauer as saying.

Russia and the Arctic

The admiral paid special attention to the Russian Federation’s ability to operate in this region.

According to Bauer, Moscow is investing in air bases in the Arctic, as well as in developing infrastructure in this physical-geographical region.

But it is worth emphasizing that the Russian side considers statements about the militarization of the region by Russia to be groundless accusations.

Thus, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed this out.
