NATO will send two AWACS aircraft to Lithuania to monitor Russian activities

The North Atlantic Alliance announced the deployment of two aircraft with the AWACS electronic reconnaissance and control system to Lithuania to monitor Russian military activity.

Both aircraft will be based in Siauliai.

The organization said in a press release that AWACS aircraft, part of a fleet of 14 NATO surveillance aircraft based in Geilenkirchen, Germany, are being deployed to Lithuania to carry out a mission to monitor Russian military activity near NATO borders.

The first of two aircraft will arrive on Thursday, September 28th. – the message said.

The aircraft will begin conducting reconnaissance flights over NATO territory in the coming days.

The mission is planned to last several weeks. – the organization reported.

It is also reported that about 150 military personnel are planned to be sent to Siauliai to support the aircraft.
