New flooding begins in Belgium due to heavy rains

17views

Due to heavy rains, flooding has begun again in Belgium.

The south of the country was damaged, several settlements were flooded, including the capital of Wallonia, Namur.

Dinan was also badly injured. There are no reports of dead or injured.

According to Dinan burgomaster Axel Tikson, the city was hit by a mud flow from the mountains caused by rainfall.

The flood swept away several dozen cars, fences, green spaces, and road signs. Several blocks in the city were flooded.

Fortunately, we are talking only about material damage, there were no casualties, – Tickson said.

In a number of other settlements in the Arden region the situation is similar. In this mountainous region, many rivers and streams overflowed their channels, turning into mud flows.

The problem is that many river beds, sewer systems and storm drains are still clogged as a result of the flooding that occurred in mid-July. The sewer system cannot cope with even a small excess of water.

Forecasters warn that the downpours will continue and the situation may worsen.

First flood in Belgium

Let us remind you that on July 14-16, the worst flood in the last century occurred in Belgium, as a result of which 32 people died and about 60 were injured.

Dozens of settlements were left without electricity, water and gas, the number of destroyed and damaged houses is in the tens of thousands.

The flood also destroyed over 50,000 vehicles.
The damage has not yet been calculated. According to preliminary estimates, it amounts to billions of euros.
