0views

The World Meteorological Organization no longer considers extreme heat a surprise, but calls the weather phenomenon the new normal.

This does not apply to the whole world, but only to certain regions. This statement was made at a briefing held in Geneva.

During the discussion of the high air temperature established this summer in July and August in a number of countries in the Northern Hemisphere, representatives of the World Meteorological Organization did not consider the phenomenon to be a surprise.

Extreme heat is now normal

Representatives of a special agency at the UN call extreme heat the new normal.

This is the new normal, and this is not a surprise,” the publication quotes WMO expert Alvaro Silva as saying.

Experts at the institution associate the increase in air temperature rises to extremely high levels with human activity and greenhouse gas emissions.

Results of the outgoing summer

This year, July would already be recognized as the hottest month on record. But even in August, the threat of unfavorable weather conditions remains.

Weather services in Austria and Germany, France and Switzerland, Hungary and Italy, as well as Greece, Poland and Croatia warned about extreme heat.

French experts predicted an increase in air temperature to 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

In Switzerland they expect +33 +35.

In Agadir (Morocco), an absolute record was set – 50.4 degrees above zero.

Turkey experienced a heat wave of +49.5 degrees Celsius and even in Japan temperature records were broken.

In Canada, the heat caused the largest forest fires, and in the United States, the weather service announced an increase in temperature to +38 degrees.
