New York court finds Trump guilty of fraud charges

Former US President Donald Trump has been found guilty by a court in New York in a civil fraud case.

This is stated in the court decision published in its electronic database.

What punishment is given to Trump?

The court found Trump guilty of fraudulent assessment of the assets of the Trump Organization and ordered him to pay about $355 million, and also banned him from holding leadership positions in state companies for 3 years.

In addition, the court banned the former US President from taking loans from financial institutions registered in the state for 3 years.

The former American leader’s sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., were found guilty of conspiracy and fraud, including falsifying business records and financial statements.

Each will have to pay $4 million and be banned from leading New York businesses for 2 years.

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba announced her intention to appeal the court’s decision.

The prosecution’s demands were not fully satisfied: the prosecutor’s office asked for a lifelong ban on the former American leader from business activities in real estate and $370 million in compensation.

What was Trump accused of?

This lawsuit against Trump and his company came to court in September 2022. According to the prosecution, Trump’s company inflated the value of assets by $2.23 to $3.6 billion to obtain more favorable terms on insurance and loans.
