Niger’s military overthrew the president, closed the borders and imposed a curfew

A coup took place in the West African state – the local military announced the overthrow of the president.

According to them, the leader of the nation, Mohamed Bazoum, was removed from his position.

In addition, all borders were closed in the country and a curfew was introduced – TASS agency.

It is noted that the military that seized power made a corresponding statement on national television.

The country’s borders are closed and a nationwide curfew is announced, they said.

The media wrote that the UN Secretary General managed to have a telephone conversation with Bazuma.

Information was also received about the reaction to the events from the United States: the State Department called for the immediate release of the President of Niger.

In turn, Agence France-Presse, referring to the same statement by the rebels on national TV, writes that the military announced the cessation of work of all institutions in the country.

Later they made another statement in which they guaranteed physical integrity of representatives of the displaced government.

We confirm respect for the physical and moral integrity of the former authorities in accordance with human rights,” said Colonel Amadou Abdraman.

According to him, the military decided to put an end to the current system due to the deterioration of the economic, social and security situation.

As for the curfew, it was introduced from 19:00 to 05:00 (from 21:00 to 07:00 Belarusian time).
